Kent police officer seriously assaulted in Maidstone

A police officer has been taken to hospital after being attacked.

Two men have been arrested after the officer was assaulted in Maidstone this afternoon.

Police are appealing for witnesses or CCTV footage following the incident in Woodside Road.

It was reported that the PC was in the area carrying out inquiries at around 11.15am.

When he approached a man sitting in the car, he was assaulted.

Two men, both in their 20s, reportedly ran from the area but were located and arrested nearby by other officers who arrived at the scene.

Both men remain in police custody whilst inquiries continue.

The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged, although will require further treatment.
