A discount retailer is to shut one of its Kent stores.

Poundland Clearance in the London Road Retail Park, Maidstone will close its doors for the final time on Saturday

The retailer also has a store in Week Street and in The Mall, which expanded its floorspace by half last year.

A spokesman said: "The clearance store on London Road is closing this Saturday, however customers can continue to shop at the Poundland store in the Chequers Centre where they can find amazing value for just £1."

The chain was bought by South African retailer Steinhoff for £610m last summer.

The takeover happened shortly after the firm announced an 84% fall in pre-tax profit to £5.9m in the year to March 2016.
