Traffic lights in Bishops Way and Mill Street in Maidstone Town Centre not working after power cut

Extreme overnight weather has caused power cuts across the county wreaking havoc with traffic.

Dozens of trees were snapped in half and felled during high winds, while many homeowners woke up to their wheelie bins missing from their driveways.

The damage caused by the weather can still be seen this morning with pedestrians in Maidstone having to take a riskier walk to work than normal.

Traffic lights in the town centre close to Archbishops Palace are not working and engineers are in the area to sort out the issue.

Meanwhile, drivers along Bishops Way and Mill Street are having to fight it out to make it to work on time.

Those walking to work have no option other than to wait until a safe time to cross as there is not a green man in sight.

Yesterday there were similar concerns close to Maidstone Hospital after traffic lights stopped working in Hermitage Lane.

A power cut in Barming was reported at around 10.45pm yesterday and engineers had the power restored by 6.30am today.
