Shepway Chariots in Maidstone has been chosen for kmfm's Project Kent

A community garden is about to get a makeover thanks to volunteers from kmfm and Kent Reliance.

Project Kent has received scores of nominations since this year's campaign was launched.

On the breakfast show this morning Garry and Laura revealed Shepway Chariots from Maidstone are this year's chosen project.

The community garden and wildlife corner is completely run by volunteers.

Local people are encouraged to learn how to grow, tend and harvest their own fresh fruit and vegetables in its half an acre of green space.

The charity works to spread awareness about the environment, biodiversity and wildlife as well practising recycling and composting on site.

Nikki Gough, founder of Shepway Chariots, said: "We have a community beehive and we would like to get some bees in the community garden. To have that built and the area around it made ready for bees to come in would be great, Shepway could have their own honey."

The Project Kent team are heading to Shepway all next week to transform areas of the garden and allotment as well as redecorate their kitchen and classroom hut. They will be weeding, planting, chopping, sowing seeds, building bug huts, fixing, cleaning, painting, creating a fairy corner and much more.
