Maidstone vegetarian finds chicken nugget in Quorn pack of meat-free cocktail sausages

A horrified vegetarian who found a chicken nugget in his Quorn cocktail sausages suspects a rogue factory worker is behind the misplaced piece of meat.

Matthew Barlow, from Maidstone, tucked into his meat-free cocktail sausages to find a suspicious and out-of-place nugget.

The 42-year-old who became a vegetarian 20 years ago, took a bite and suspected fowl play before packing the nugget and sending it off to Quorn who analysed it.

Last month we reported on fast food giants McDonald's messing up a vegetarian's order along with incredible footage of the customer showing his frustration.

The manufacturer confirmed it was a genuine chicken nugget and launched an investigation.

Speaking to MailOnline Mr Barlow believes a rogue factory worker is at fault in a bid to sabotage Quorn's brand and launch an attack on vegetarians.

He said: "The texture seemed odd to me. It was chewy and not like a normal veggie product’s texture.

"Because they had the packaging they could determine that it was produced at night when they had a skeleton crew on. They pulled the people off the production line and interviewed them.

"They reviewed CCTV footage and couldn’t find anyone planting anything and no one admitted it."

Quorn were also able to establish that the sausages, made from a form of fungus, had been packed at a factory in the North East of England which also handles meat products.

Mr Barlow, however, believes the nugget was an attempt by a worker to pull a prank on an unsuspecting citizen.

A Quorn spokesman confirmed staff had been interviewed and CCTV footage analysed but the source of the chicken nugget remains a mystery.

The spokesman also said it could be feasible for a factory worker to have placed the nugget in the packaging deliberately.

Mr Barlow has been offered compensation.
