Students told to stay home due to fire alarm issues at St Augustine Academy, Maidstone

Students have again been told to stay home from a school due to an ongoing issue with its fire alarm.

St Augustine Academy in Maidstone made a decision yesterday to close the school, telling parents that the alarm had been ringing "constantly".

The Oakwood Road school has today ) been closed to all pupils except those in year 11, who were due to sit exams this morning.

School leaders have insisted work is ongoing to try and resolve the issue as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to learning.

The academy said it was hopeful all students would be able to return tomorrow but admitted it was a work in progress and asked parents to visit the school website for further developments.

A statement read: "The academy will be open on Tuesday, March 12 for year 11 students only.

"Students in years 7-10 should remain at home and complete work set on the SIMS app and preparation for assessments.
