St John’s Primary School at Grove Green ‘outstanding’ in every area says Ofsted

A school has undergone its first Ofsted inspection in 10 years and was found to be “outstanding” in every area.

St John’s Church of England Primary in Provender Way, Grove Green, near Maidstone, was examined by a team of three inspectors in March.

In their report, just published, they declared the school to be “outstanding” in each of the five areas they looked at.

The school, which had 436 pupils, had last been inspected in July 2015, when it had also been given the highest possuible rating.

Inspectors this time said: “Pupils thrive at this highly aspirational school.

“The school’s values, including compassion, are at the heart of the school’s excellent work.

“Pupils behave exceptionally well. They show courtesy to all and have warm and trusting relationships with staff.”

The inspectors said: “Teachers have high expectations of pupils and the pupils work extremely hard to meet them.”

Ofsted also praised the school’s extra-curricular activities, saying pupils made a significant contribution to the school community and beyond.

Staff were praised for their expertise and their “relentless work to ensure that all pupils prospered”.

Dan Smith has been the head teacher since 2017 and before that he was the deputy head since 2006.

He said: “I am extremely proud that St John's has been judged as ‘outstanding’ in all areas.”

“It is a true reflection of the hard work, dedication and high level of care continuously demonstrated by the staff, pupils, parents and governors.

“The inspection team were very professional, challenging and fair; I'm sure they enjoyed the time spent with us and really understood the ethos and values of the school that translated into the excellent outcomes we have achieved.”

The report follows close on the heels of a similarly “outstanding” Ofsted inspection at The Judd School in Tonbridge.

The Judd also had not been inspected for 10 years.
