Six fire crews called to field blaze at Boxley, Maidstone

Six fire engines battled a field blaze.

Smoke from the flaming crops were spotted just before 2pm on Sunday come from Harp Farm Road, Boxley, Maidstone. (Aug 7).

Firefighters spent more than an hour at the scene using a 'fogging' unit, which showered the three hectares with water, and high pressure hose-reel jets before bringing the blaze under control.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Services said: "Around three hectares of cut corn was alight on arrival."

No casualties were reported.

The cause has not been confirmed.

It is the latest in a spate of fires as tinder dry grassland is in danger of bursting into flames because of the hot spell.
