Splashing time ahead at river festival

MAIDSTONE'S 24th River Festival on the Medway will bring festival month in the County Town to a spectacular end on Saturday, July 26.

Main events on the day will include a home-made raft race with a £500 prize and an illuminated boat display. There will also be a prize for the "best dressed" boat.

Away from the water, there will also be a wide range of shows and displays to keep people entertained.

The events on the river will bring to an end this year's International Maidstone Music and Dance Festival in the town. Away from the water, there will also be a wide range of shows and displays to keep people entertained.

The River Festival Stage, sponsored by the Kent Messenger, will include performances by 2001 Pop Idol contestant Rik Waller and his band, Souled As Scene, while the Hermitage Millennium Amphitheatre will host music and theatre throughout the day.
