Delays on the A249 southbound between M2 junction 5 and Detling Hill

Drivers are being warned to expect delays on a section of the A249 southbound this morning after a trailer became detached from a vehicle.

The delays between M2 J5 and Detling Hill on the A249 southbound happened after the detached trailer obstructed the road. It has since been cleared.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called at 4.58am on Tuesday 20 April 2021 to a report a trailer had become detached from a vehicle while traveling on the Maidstone-bound A249, at Detling Hill.

"The trailer caused an obstruction in the road, which had been cleared by around 7am.

Officers also issued a traffic offence report to a motorist for the dangerous use of a trailer."

There is also slow moving traffic closer to Maidstone centre on the road, between Kent Show Ground and Jade's Crossing.

Drivers are being urged to approach with caution and expect delays.
