Trespasser on line at Maidstone East station delays train

Late night train passengers were delayed at Maidstone after police were called to a trespasser on the line.

Southeastern trains tweeted at 12.55am this morning to say the 11.55pm Victoria to Ashford service was being delayed at Maidstone East due to a trespasser on the line.

Further tweets said police had been called to attend the incident and that the train was being held at the town centre station while investigations were being carried out.

British Transport Police say a man was arrested for trespass and threatening behaviour.

They say a man had used the emergency door release to gain access to the tracks. He then made threats towards an off duty Met Police officer.

A further message from Southeastern at 1.38am said the incident was now cleared, the train was on the move again and that it would continue to Ashford.
