Tributes have been paid to two young people who died in a crash at the weekend.

Harry Skilton and Beth Eves, 21, from Maidstone both lost their lives when the car in which they were travelling left the road and plunged through a barbed wire fence into a stretch of water known as the Dengemarsh Sewer.

A former Invicta Grammar School pupil, who did her sixth form at Maidstone Grammar School, Miss Eves worked as a design apprentice with Google.

Today the firm's UK MD Ronan Harris said: "I was deeply saddened to hear about this tragic accident.

"Our hearts and thoughts are with the friends and family of Beth Eves and Harry Skilton.

"Beth was a highly regarded Google colleague and will be sorely missed."

Harry Skilton went to school at Maidstone Grammar until Year 11 and then to St Simon Stock for the sixth form. MGS tweeted its condolences.

Maidstone Grammar's deputy head Jools Sewell said: "We're all terribly saddened to hear the news. Harry left us in 2014 and Beth in 2016, but Beth returned to us this year to give a talk to some of our students about Google.

"Staff have fond memories of them both."

Julie Derrick, headmistress at Invicta Grammar, said: “We are deeply saddened to hear the tragic news regarding the deaths of Beth Eves and Harry Skilton.

"Beth was a lovely, hard-working and popular student. Our thoughts are with their friends and family at this incredibly difficult time.”

Friends have been posting their tributes on Facebook.

Mae Westall said: "RIP Beth Eves no one will ever forget you, you were a beautiful person inside and out. Forever loved."

Beer bottles and flowers have been left at the scene of the crash.

Serious collision investigation officers are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward, and particularly anyone who may have dash-cam footage taken in the area around that time.
