Staff at Wilkinson are celebrating winning gold with a Bradley Wiggins-inspired pig.

Workers at the Maidstone branch were delighted to be told they had won the Mall Chequers’ contest to find the best dressed curly-tailed money box, with a cash prize of £150.

They gave their pig sideburns like those worn by the Olympic gold medallist and Tour de France winner.

Thirty-two stores in the shopping centre off King Street took part in the contest and had to encourage their customers to vote for them on Facebook.

The budget superstore’s entry received the most points, with 269 likes. Boots came in second with 226.

Lee Clayton, assistant manager of Wilkinson, said: “The main credit should go to Phil Harris who painted our pig, but we would also like to thank all of the team and our customers.”
