Maidstone Wind Symphony ends 20th season with gala concert

The Maidstone Wind Symphony will end its 20th anniversary season with a gala concert.

The award-winning wind orchestra will also be joined by one of the world’s top trombonists and by its founder and first musical director Brendon le Page for the concert this Saturday (June 29).

Founded in 1998, the orchestra regularly performs at the County Town’s Proms In The Park event and in 2015 became only the second wind orchestra to win the National Concert Band Symposium Competition.

Under the baton of its current music director Jonathan Crowhurst it has made three professional recordings, won a national competition and performed with some of the biggest names in woodwind and brass in the country.

The anniversary concert will feature trombonist Brett Baker from the Black Dyke Band, who also performed with the orchestra on its first recording - Slide Projections in 2012.

The programme will also reprise other key pieces from the band’s history, including music by traditional composers Percy Grainger, Gustav Holst and more contemporary composers.

The climax will be a performance of the finale from Saint-Seans’ Organ Symphony, dedicated to the symphony’s president, Dan Daley.
