THE widow of a building worker killed on the site of the Fremlin Walk development four years ago has described fines imposed for the breach of Health and Safety rules as "insulting".

Sarah Taylor of Melford Drive, Barming, said the fines totalling £178,500 imposed for the death of her husband Justin Taylor four years ago during the construction of the shopping centre had left her "extremely upset".

Mrs Taylor said: "I don't think I would have ever been satisfied with any fine that the judge decided to impose.

"The Health and Safety court case was going to help me with some sort of closure but it doesn't because it is insulting."

Barry Pollen, 59, the unqualified driver of a dumper truck that killed Mr Taylor, must pay £1,000, while site supervisor Sean Mongan, 49, will have to pay £2,500.

The main sub-contractor, PJ Carey Ltd, was fined £100,000 and Miller Construction (UK) Ltd £75,000.

Mr Taylor, 29, who originally came from Wouldham and had lived in Aylesford, was struck by the six tonne dumper truck on June 20, 2003.
