A woman in her 60s has died following a fire in a flat.

Firefighters in four engines were called to reports of smoke coming from a property in Quarry Square in Maidstone just before 10.30pm.

They wore breathing apparatus and used high-pressure hose reel jets to tackle the flames.

Police have confirmed the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

Investigations are underway into what caused the fire and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
