Magnus Okuonghae signs new deal at Maidstone United

Big defender Magnus Okuonghae has signed a one-year deal to stay at Maidstone.

The former Colchester captain had to wait for his Stones debut after joining in February but showed his class in the final five games of the season, earning a contract offer.

Okuonghae, 31, said: “For me it was a no-brainer and I am delighted to be back next season.

“I've really enjoyed my time at the club so far, there's a good bunch of lads, good manager and unbelievable fans who turn out in such numbers home and away.

"At this time in my career, I've found a club that's ambitious and heading in the right direction and one that's close to home, so I can be near my family too. It works for me on all levels."

Stones chief executive Bill Williams said: “Being an ex-centre-half myself, I can sometimes be critical of players in that position but in Magnus I think we've got the dominant type of centre-half that our team needs.

"Not only is he good in the air but he also has the most dominating presence I've seen in a long time and I hope he's going to be a big influence on the development of our back line."
