Having qualified sixth at the super-fast Leicestershire circuit, he kept his composure to finish fourth in the first race.

The second race was equally close, with Merritt racing hard to the chequered flag, taking the win and setting the fastest lap.

“I am delighted to have secured my first-ever overall win in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship,” said Merritt, who is sitting his GCSEs at Mascalls Academy in Paddock Wood.

“It was a fantastic way to finish what had been a challenging weekend at times, with some super-close, competitive racing.

“I’d like to say thank you to the entire team at Race Car Consultants, especially my lead mechanic Aaron, for providing me with a great car, and to all my sponsors and partners - The Event Safety Company, Integral, Fastwarm Underfloor Heating, FF Corse, and SIM Motorsport - who make this possible.

“My focus is now on the next round of the championship and revising for my remaining exams.”

The next round of the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship takes place at Anglesey on June 7-8.
