Maidstone United place longest-serving player Jack Paxman on the transfer list

John Still has challenged Jack Paxman to prove him wrong after Maidstone's longest-serving player was transfer-listed.

The midfielder appears to be on his way out after four years at the Gallagher Stadium.

He's played just once in the league since Still took charge and that was a late substitute appearance in a 1-1 draw with Fylde.

Still said: "Sometimes a player can be at a place too long without making the right amount of progress for themselves. Forget what we think, for themselves.

"At the end of the day it's his career.

"I've put loads of people on the transfer list who've said, 'yeah, you can put me on the transfer list but I'm not going, I'm going to prove you wrong.'

"Good luck to you, that's all right.

"Try and prove me wrong if that's what you think. I haven't got a problem with that."

Paxman had been out of the squad altogether against Havant and Eastleigh but was back on the bench at Wrexham on Saturday after Ollie Muldoon suffered a hamstring injury in training.

Still said: "Listen, he's one of our players. We wanted a midfield player on the bench.

"He was technically the only one available because Muldoon was injured but just because he's on the list I wouldn't exclude him.

"As long as he trains properly and does everything right, I would never exclude him. It's not right.

"Since I've been here he's not been a regular.

"I think he's been in and out and maybe he feels he needs to go somewhere else and restart his career again. I've got no problem with that.

"I always say, I've got no problem with people who feel they should leave for whatever reason, as long as they train and do everything properly and are professional."
