Three goals, a clean sheet and a place in the FA Trophy quarter-finals made it a good night for Maidstone head coach Hakan Hayrettin.

The Stones dominated a young Salford side and set up a trip to Stockport on February 23 thanks to goals from Michael Phillips, Elliott Romain and captain Will De Havilland.

Hayrettin said: "It's a clean sheet, three goals and it gave us another opportunity tonight to look at our players.

"Overall it’s encouraging, small steps in the right direction.

"They’re getting to know us and we’re getting to know them but they’re responding.

"I don’t know the last time we scored three goals at home.

"It could have been more but we’re happy that we kept a clean sheet.

"We were brave, we were bold, which is important.

"You’ve got to sometimes play on the front foot and that’s what we’re going to try and do."

Phillips' opener, in particular, highlighted how Maidstone's work on the training ground under the new management is starting to pay off.

Hayrettin said: "We always said that most of the goals at this level will come in and around the six-yard box and that was no coincidence today.

"We’ve been working on bits and pieces and he's arrived really well, Phillips, and it’s a good goal."
