Concord Rangers 1 Maidstone United 5 match report

Maidstone stormed back from a goal down to beat Concord and maintain pressure on National South leaders Dorking.

Joan Luque's penalty in first-half injury time proved the catalyst, with substitute Christie Pattisson, Joe Ellul and Roarie Deacon's double completing an emphatic victory.

Mo Bettamer came in for his debut in place of the rested Jack Barham up front as Maidstone made one change to the side who beat Ebbsfleet 4-0 on Tuesday night.

As good as that midweek performance was, the Stones struggled to get anything going in the first half against a battling Concord side who included striker Ben Williamson, their new signing from Dover.

Concord were the better side in the opening 45, without battering Tom Hadler’s goal, and deserved their lead, Mamadou Jobe getting his head to a long throw on 34 minutes.

Luque fired over early in the half and saw Myles Roberts parry a fierce strike shortly after the Concord goal, while Sam Corne sent a half-volley out of the ground after a corner was cleared to the edge of the box.

But the Stones were handed a lifeline in first-half added time when Luque helped the ball on to Bettamer, who was taken out out by Jayden Randell for a penalty.

Luque stepped up and sent Roberts the wrong way from the spot with the last kick of the half.

Bettamer hit the post from a low Regan Booty corner and belted the follow-up over, early in the second half.

Maidstone, working hard to win the ball back in midfield, were starting to turn the screw midway through the half.

Deacon fired over, Pattisson was denied from Luque’s deflected cross and Booty tested Roberts as pressure built.

The second goal followed on 70 minutes, with Pattisson running on to Booty’s pass and firing past Roberts.

George Fowler made a key interception to snuff out a Concord counter before Deacon drove forward and fired wide as Maidstone looked for a killer third.

They had it 10 minutes from time, with Ellul heading home Deacon’s inswinging corner from a few yards out.

Maidstone added their fourth on 86 minutes when Deacon dumped Roberts on his backside from Booty's cross before finishing.

Deacon struck again in the third minute of added time with Concord expecting an offside flag.
