Marden's William Sparrow showing title intent in ex-Ferrari Formula 1 engineer Rob Smedley's Total Karting Zero Electric Southern Series

Marden racer William Sparrow was best of the rest in round two of the Total Karting Zero Electric Southern Series.

Sparrow, 13, got to show what he can do in the series for junior karts engineered by Rob Smedley, formerly of the Ferrari Formula 1 team, at Ellough Park Raceway in Suffolk.

The track was new to Sparrow but he delivered all weekend, qualifying third in a close pack.

In the first heat Sparrow maintained third place. In the second heat, a spectacular overtake in the final half of the final lap for the lead won him the heat and the final saw Sparrow start on the front row in P2.

At various points the front runners were nose to tail but Sparrow defended well and kept up the pace to stay second.

He is third in the standings out of 14 drivers with four races to go. The highest-scoring drivers from the Southern and Northern series will then battle it out for the national title at Rye House in October.

Sparrow has recently secured sponsorship from Marden-based company The Pixel Farm Ltd, which provides advanced image vision technologies to customers worldwide.

Michael Lancaster, managing director of The Pixel Farm, said: "As a technology company, we are delighted to support William to compete in these exciting electric karting events.

"Total Karting Zero is inspiring a generation of young motorsports enthusiasts to embrace the future of motorsport as the world adapts to a lower carbon future.

"We are excited to be part of William's journey as he develops his skills and talent in the sport."
