Top scorer Aaron Blair and defender Temi Eweka leave Maidstone United after rejecting new contracts

Two of Maidstone United’s main men have confirmed they are leaving the Gallagher Stadium.

Top scorer Aaron Blair and centre-half Temi Eweka are moving on to higher-level clubs after rejecting new contract offers.

Their departure comes days after Charlie Seaman also turned down a new deal to sign for Kent rivals Ebbsfleet.

“Aaron Blair and Temi Eweka have notified the club that they have decided not to accept a new deal and will leave to pursue an opportunity at a higher level,” said a Stones statement.

“We thank them for their contributions to the club and wish them every success for their future endeavours.”

Blair scored 21 goals after joining Maidstone from Braintree last summer, including the last-minute winner at Eastbourne that sent them through to the National League South play-off final.

He quickly endeared himself to fans with his goals and tireless work rate, qualities that were always going to attract suitors. The forward has been linked with National League Eastleigh.

Eweka was another big crowd favourite after signing from Slough a year ago.

The big defender scored a debut winner in Maidstone’s opening-day victory at St Albans and helped George Elokobi’s side keep a record-equalling 23 clean sheets in the league.

Again, interest was fully expected in the 25-year-old, who was voted players’ player-of-the-season at the Gallagher.

Maidstone made their first summer signing last week with the arrival of attacking midfielder John Gilbert from Slough.
