Maidstone United receive FA Trophy bye after third-round opponents Maidenhead United withdraw due to Covid cases

Maidstone are through to round four of the FA Trophy without kicking a ball.

This weekend’s third-round opponents Maidenhead have withdrawn from the competition due to “a number of Covid-19 cases”, the Berkshire club announced on Twitter.

It means Maidstone receive a bye at this stage for the second season running after Frome forfeited last December’s tie at the Gallagher due to concerns over travelling to what was a Tier 4 Covid area.

“Due to a number of Covid-19 cases at Maidenhead United, we have withdrawn from this year’s FA Trophy,” said the Magpies.

“As a result, this Saturday’s fixture against Maidstone United has been cancelled.

“The Stones have a bye into the next round and we wish them all the best.”

The tie at Maidenhead would have been the Stones’ first visit to York Road since a televised 3-2 National League defeat in August 2018.
