Maidstone United winger Andre Coker battling to beat thigh injury for Hartlepool opener

Andre Coker is touch and go for Maidstone’s National League opener.

The winger has been one of United’s best players in pre-season but is nursing a thigh problem that could keep him out of Saturday’s home game against Hartlepool.

Stones boss Jay Saunders is keeping his fingers crossed as he intended to start his summer signing from Crystal Palace.

Saunders said: “I’m hoping he’s OK.

“If I’m being honest he’s one of the ones I’d pencilled in for a start. I’ve been really impressed with him in pre-season.

“He looks like he’s going to score goals so I’m gutted he’s got this thigh injury.

“It’s the same injury as last year. He was out for four weeks when I had him on loan.

“I’m really disappointed because it’s a big year for him.

“I’ve been on at him all summer about end product because if he gets that into his game, there’ll be clubs coming in for him.

“We’ve got him on a two-year deal, which is great, but there’ll be clubs coming in for him because he’s got all the ability in the world.

“Everyone I speak to that’s worked with him says the same, that he’s got all the ability in the world, he just needs that end product.

“I know it’s pre-season but he’s scored in nearly every game and I’m really delighted with that.”
