Maidstone’s Tom Weeden says he’s lucky to be alive after a high-speed crash at the Isle of Man TT.
Weeden remains in Noble’s Hospital with back, leg and ankle injuries after Friday’s qualifying crash at Glen Helen, on the west side of the island, and posted a video of his accident on Instagram.
Writing on Facebook on Saturday, he said: “[It’s] been a rollercoaster couple of days, but the good news is I’m ok and still have a foot attached to my leg.
“[I’m] incredibly lucky to be here and in the condition I am in - you’ll see from the video I went underneath the barriers and hit the wall feet first. Somehow only ‘walked away’ with left leg tib/fib, dislocated and smashed up ankle on right leg, broken T12 vertebrae, broken hand and a messed up little finger.
“[I] clipped the wall on the exit, bent the bar and it’s jammed the throttle wide open, it’s ripped me backwards and sent the bike into a wheelie heading straight towards the barrier.”
In an update on Monday Weeden gave thanks to concerned well-wishers and even his tip for victory.
“Good luck to all those racing today at the Isle of Man TT,” he said.
“I’ll be watching and riding in spirit from Noble’s wishing I was still out there. Wish you all a safe, enjoyable race - my money is on a Michael Dunlop victory.
“[It’s] been a painful few days and will be so for a few months ahead but the race back to fitness has started - I’ll be back before I know it I’m sure.
“Thank you so much for all the kind messages of support and even for some of the not-so-kind messages for helping the fight in me and making me laugh.”
