Maidstone United midfielder Zihni Temelci helps his side get back on track with goal against Welling

Zihni Temelci played his part as Maidstone put a difficult week behind them.

The midfielder scored the crucial second goal - a lovely near-post finish - as United beat Welling 3-1 at the Gallagher on Saturday.

Victory ended a run of four defeats and helped get the 5-1 defeat at Weymouth out of their system.

Temelci said: "In training I try to improve my finishing skills and today it worked.

"The last couple of games we've had some bad results but today it was important to win.

"Our aim is being in the play-offs and it was a really important three points.

"We need to keep producing like this."

Maidstone moved up a place to ninth in National League South and are still in the play-off hunt despite their recent struggles.

Seventh spot appears to be up for grabs with United five points behind faltering Dorking with two games in hand.

They knew the significance of beating Welling after a run of defeats.

"These times are really hard for teams when you lose games," said Temelci.

"You try to do something but sometimes it doesn't work.

"I think we stayed positive, that's the point.

"Hak stayed positive, he encouraged us in training, the players were together, no one argued.

"We were upset as well, like the supporters but today they came, they support us.

"I appreciate it and the other players do as well.

"Everyone was determined to win - no one wants results like last week.

"Everyone should be happy and next game we need to keep going.

"We have a chance. We have 10 games to go - 30 points.

"We have to get as many as we can and hopefully we will be in the play-offs."

Maidstone are due at Tonbridge tomorrow night but head coach Hakan Hayrettin said the chances of that going ahead are "very slim" as Angels continue to have problems with their pitch.
