Firefighters used chimney gear, a fog spike and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

The flames were put out by 10.25pm.

Nobody was injured and the cause is believed to be a birds’ nest that had dropped down the chimney and caught alight.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “Crews are continuing to remind everyone across Kent to inspect their chimneys before use, especially after a long period out of use.

“Regular sweeping and inspection of chimneys helps reduce the risk of a fire this winter.”
