Engineers have sealed off a busy route amid a “serious” gas leak.
SGN was called to the scene on the A228 Snodland Bypass between Ham Hill and Brook Street on Sunday evening (October 5).
An emergency closure notice sent out by Kent Highways states: “The A228 is currently closed between Ham Hill and Brook Street due to an emergency gas leak.
“SGN is on-site carrying out the repair.”
A later update on Sunday added: “Due to seriousness of the leak, SGN have advised that the road will be closed all night and tomorrow and possibly longer if work needs to continue.”
A notice on SGN’s website says: “For safety reasons, the road has been closed in both directions to allow our specialist teams to identify the cause and allow emergency repairs to be carried out.
“It's too early to say how long our work will take to complete.
“However, we know this is a busy route and we'll provide an update on progress in the coming days.”
Works are still ongoing and people are being advised to expect delays in the surrounding area as a result.
Updates are available on SGN’s website.
