The bus was headed on its usual route when it discovered the road ahead was closed.

A witness said they walked over to the site to speak to find out what happened as they were concerned there may have been a medical incident.

They said the driver told them that the road closed sign had been taken down at the top of the road.

When he realised the error, he tried to manoeuvre the bus in the field to continue on his route but got wedged.

It was later recovered from the boggy land.

An Arriva spokesman said: "Our depot was advised by local authorities that the roadworks on Knowle Road had finished.

"Buses were then sent on their normal route, however, as the roadworks were in fact still ongoing, the bus had to turn around, and in doing so, got stuck.

"However, we can confirm the bus has since been recovered."
