Two engines attended and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

It's believed the fire was caused accidentally when a cigarette butt was thrown on top of a disused mattress. Two Wheelie bins caught alight before spreading to a small garden shed and a wooded gate.

Nobody was injured.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people who smoke to make sure cigarettes, cigars and pipes are always fully out before discarding them, and to do so carefully.

It added never leave lit smoking materials unattended and only use a proper, heavy ashtray which can't easily tip over.
