General Election 2019: It's not just about Brexit, said Labour's Vince Maple

Vince Maple will be contesting Chatham and Aylesford for the Labour Party. Mr Maple, 42, who lives in Chalkpit Hill, Chatham, has been a councillor for the Medway Unitary Authority since 2007 and is the leader of the Labour group there. He is a full-time politician. He has plenty of of election experience - beside standing in the local elections he was previously the election agent for Jonathan Shaw, who represented the constituency for Labour between 1997 and 2010.

He said he found a wide variety of issues being raised on the doorstep, from the NHS to mental health, and from Grenfell to Brexit.

He said: "Although Brexit is the deciding factor for some voters, this is not a single issue election for the majority of people."

Mr Maple, who voted Remain himself in the 2016 Referendum and is now advocating for a second public vote, said: "Our policies of re-nationalising the trains and our new free broadband policy are proving very popular."

On more local issues, he said people in Aylesford and Snodland were concerned about Tonbridge and Malling council's plans to scrap free parking, which he opposed, and in Chatham he vowed to protect the Capstone Valley from redevelopment.

Mr Maple can be contacted by email on votevince2019@gmail.com

Other candidates in Chatham and Aylesford are Tracey Crouch (Con), John Wesley Gibson (Christian People's Alliance), David Naghi (Lib Dem) and Geoff Wilkinson (Green).
