Works starts on new homes for the over-55s in Kings Hill

The ground has been broken at the site of a new retirement village for the over 55s.

The Landings in Kings Hill has been commissioned by Anchor Hanover, and is being constructed by the house-builder Hill.

Guests at the ceremony included the Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Jill Anderson; Tom Tugendhat MP for Tonbridge and Malling; and Kings Hill ward councillor Christopher Brown.

But the special guest of honour was June Budd, who lives locally and has for many years been campaigning to get retirement housing provided at Kings Hill.

She was invited to turn the first sod - using a golden shovel.

The Landings will offer assisted living for the over-55s, with 75 one and two-bedroom apartments among landscaped grounds, with amenities including a salon, residents' lounge, bistro, treatment room and an on-site care team.

The development forms a key part of the wider 650-acre mixed-use Kings Hill masterplan, being led by Liberty Property Trust UK.

Completion is expected in late 2021.
