Fundraiser for Chloe Sullivan and family to return home from Dominican Republic after newborn baby's death reaches target

A grieving couple left stranded overseas after the loss of their newborn baby will be able to come home after a fundraising campaign reached its £17,000 target within a day.

Chloe Sullivan, from Snodland, was stripped of her passport and told she had to pay about £16,000 in medical costs before she could go home from Dominican Republic with her fiancé and four-year-old daughter.

In less than 24 hours, friends, family and strangers have raised money to cover her bills after she was given a life-saving emergency C-section on Sunday.

Doctors rushed newborn baby Arlo straight into a neonatal ward but he sadly died in the early hours of Monday morning of suspected respiratory problems.

The Snodland mum handed over her passport as she faced a medical bill of more than $20,000 (£16,000).

But friends and family dug into their pockets to help in her hour of need.

With more than £17,000 raised online, Miss Sullivan thanked donors on the GoFundMe page.

She wrote: "We just want to say thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to all of our friends, family and people we don’t know who have generously donated to allow us the opportunity to receive both mine and Arlo’s medical records, my passport and the medication I need to allow me on a flight back home.

"We have raised the funds we need now so thank you all. I cannot believe how amazingly kind people can be.

"We are incredibly lucky to have so much support from you all. In a very dark and hard time you have helped to shine a little ray of light and given us the breathing space to start to grieve for our son.

"I honestly do not know how we will ever repay you. Just thank you so so much. We are eternally grateful and forever in your debt."

Harry Cottam, from Hextable, set up the GoFundMe page on Wednesday.

He posted this afternoon: "Thank you so much to everyone who donated, the generosity of every single person has been amazing and I’m sure Michael [Parrott] and Chloe will never forget it."

A spokesperson from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "Our staff have offered advice to a British family in the Dominican Republic following the death of their child. Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time."
