M20 reopens after several crashes

The M20 is fully open after a series of crashes forced it to close.

The London-bound carriageway was shut to allow for emergency repairs to 50m of crash barrier following several accidents.

All lanes between Junctions 1 (Swanley) and 2 (Wrotham) are now clear of delays.

A car is said to have driven down the verge at around 10.30am.

This was followed by a series of crashes, involving a total of five vehicles.

A large number of emergency services were called to the scene.

One man was taken to Princes Royal Hospital while another person was taken to Kings College Hospital with a head injury.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to a report that a car had left the carriageway on the M20 London-bound at 10.38am.

“It took place close to junction 2 and a number of smaller collisions are reported to have taken place following the incident.

“Officers are currently at the scene and are conducting inquiries to establish the circumstances .

“At present no serious injuries have been reported.”
