Sue and Fiona More waiting for £400 refund from cancelled Maidstone Panto at the Friars in Aylesford

Two sisters-in-law have been left waiting for a £400 refund after a Christmas panto was cancelled at the last minute.

Sue and Fiona More bought the group ticket for 20 people to take family and friends, including nine children, but were told the show, due to be held at The Friars in Aylesford, was off.

The performances of Snow White were allegedly cancelled after contractors said they had not been paid in full, leaving hundreds of excited spectators with their plans dashed.

Disappointed and out of pocket, the pair sought a refund and say they were promised one within five to seven working days in an email showing it had been processed.

However, they say they were promised repayment by Wednesday, January 2 but they still haven’t got the sum returned.

“I think we should get our money back as soon as possible,” said Sue. “The children were extremely disappointed. My friend was bringing her granddaughter who she hadn’t seen in a long time and they were really looking forward to it.

“We had mixed emotions when we found out the pantomime was cancelled.

"We were really upset because the children were sad about it, but there was also the complication thinking about the money.

“The other annoying thing is they are not responding to calls or emails, it’s really frustrating; especially for my sister in law whose money it was. Why should we have to pay for something we haven’t got.”

To make matters worse, the group bought their tickets in October for the December 22 showing so almost two months of anticipation ended in utter dismay.

“We were really looking forward to it for a while,”said the 53-year-old. “It was a time to get all the children together. We were trying to do something nice for these kids and make some good memories.”

Promoter Danny Wright responded to their concerns saying their money is still to come and asked them to get back in touch.

“We’re not hiding away from anything,” he said. “Everyone is getting a refund. Most people have received it already. It depends on when they made their request.

“That customer may have been missed but most were refunded within two or three days after the event so we’re not holding back.”
