Joiners Arms pub in West Malling has licence suspended after fight

A pub has been closed at the request of the police.

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council suspended the licence for the Joiners Arms in West Malling after an emergency meeting of its Licensing and Appeals Panel.

The suspension follows a brawl at the pub on Saturday, February 22, in which one man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

The reason given by the council for the licence suspension was that a senior police officer believed the premises was “associated with serious crime or serious disorder.”

The Joiner’s Arms recently featured in an episode of Channel 4’s Four In A Bed, a programme where landlords from four venues check out each other’s offerings and rate them.

The pub is a Shepherd Neame hostelry.

The company’s director of tenanted pub operations, Greg Wallis, said: “The Joiners Arms is currently closed following an incident at the pub on February 22.

“Our team has been supporting the police and local authority with their enquiries, and we hope to reopen the pub soon.”

A spokesman for the council confirmed the licence was suspended and will be reviewed at a hearing on March 24 at 10am.
