Car stopped by police on M20 near Wrotham after speeding away from officers when asked to stop in Swanley

A police chase involving a helicopter ended when a vehicle was stopped on the M20 after a pursuit involving multiple officers.

The car sped away from police in Swanley this afternoon but was pursued along the motorway.

Police had to stop traffic on the M20 as they brought the car to a halt

It was eventually "brought to a controlled stop" on the coastbound carriageway, near Junction 2 for Wrotham.

A police spokesman said: "At around 4.40pm a vehicle is reported to have failed to stop when it was requested to do so by Kent Police officers in Lynden Way, Swanley.

"A pursuit was authorised, with support provided by the National Police Air Service.

"The vehicle was subsequently brought to a controlled stop near junction 2 of the coastbound M20 at around 5.25pm.

"No injuries have been reported however a road closure was briefly enforced to ensure public safety.

"A 35-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in custody as enquiries continue."
