The couple, aged 36 and 41, live in the High Street and rushed straight down to the Upper Mills Road premises, but when they arrived the suspects had already fled.

Speaking to the KM Mrs Gower, who has run the fitness centre with her husband for just over a year, said: "We were called straight away by the alarm company, but when we got there we just found all the damage.

"As a new business it's tough to have something like this happen so soon on.

"There hasn't been any vicious damage done but they smashed both of the security doors and took our laptop and cash from the till.

"They left a trial of paperwork outside the premises which they obviously dropped on the way out."

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed officers are investigating a report of a burglary in Upper Mills Road.

Mrs Gower, added: "We had to speak to police this morning but luckily we were able to stay open.

"We've had so many members ringing up and asking if we're okay, they're so lovely. It's not the best situation but I'm trying to stay positive."
