Police seize £4,000 of suspected illicit tobacco from car boot in Rainham

More than £4,000 worth of suspected illicit tobacco has been seized from an untaxed vehicle.

A PCSO noticed the car parked in Longley Road, Rainham, and suspected it was being used to commit crime.

After making checks, they found out the car did not have any tax and it was also believed it may have been linked to a nearby shop.

Today, town centre officers went to the area where they saw the vehicle parked.

They witnessed a man opening the boot of the car who was seen taking out a large amount of tobacco.

The man was searched and officers seized 231 packets of tobacco as well 41 pouches of loose tobacco with an estimated street value of more than £4,000.

Officers have since informed Trading Standards about the business.

The car was also seized.
