500 tonnes of recycling waste on fire at Chatham Docks

Firefighters tackled a blaze involving 500 tonnes of recycling waste for about six hours today.

Crews were called to an industrial unit at Chatham Docks just after 6.30am.

At its height, five fire engines and around 20 firefighters were at the scene but this was later reduced to three engines.

The firefighters used main jets and water from a hydrant to tackle the flames.

Crews remained at the scene until shortly after 12.30pm.
