Armed gang in Walderslade Road, Chatham, attack cars

Thugs armed with hammers and bats ran riot in Chatham.

Terrified witnesses called police as the armed thugs ran riot along the residential street.

Pictures emerged this afternoon of the men who were armed with weapons in Walderslade Road.

It is believed cars were attacked, and some reported men armed with hammers and a baseball bat.

It is thought the men clashed after a crash between two cars.

A witness who wishes to remain anonymous said: “I passed the working men's club before Greenacre school and I saw people running everywhere.

“Cars just stopped everywhere.

“One person leading the way had something in his hand and it looked like he was being chased.”

Police confirmed they were called to a disturbance in Walderslade Road at 5.32pm.

They said two groups of men were involved in an altercation following a collision, and that during the altercation, a number of stationary vehicles were damaged.

The men then dispersed and disappeared.

Officers had arrived by 5.40pm and remained in the area conducting inquiries to establish the full circumstances.

A police spokesman added: "Kent Police was called to a disturbance in Walderslade Road, Walderslade, at 5.32pm.

"It is reported that two groups of men were involved in an altercation following a two vehicle collision.

"During the altercation, a number of stationary vehicles were damaged."

Police say no injuries have been reported.
