A 36-year-old man from Maidstone and a 38-year-old woman from Gillingham remain in custody while inquiries are ongoing.

Pharmacist Pam Karson, who runs the business with husband Ferride, said thieves had smashed a window with a hammer before stealing £5000 worth of cigarettes from the shop - which is also a convenience store.

Cough mixture had also been stolen and the intruders had got into the back dispensary.

Mrs Karson thanked those who had offer to help in the aftermath of the break-in.
