Holding on charity celebrates 20 years at Mid Kent College

Families enjoyed a range of activities as they joined a bereavement charity at Mid Kent College on Saturday to celebrate 20 years of work in the community.

Holding On Letting Go helps children to cope with the death of someone close to them, and hundreds of people came together for the charity's anniversary fun day, which featured an old school samba, silent disco and live music as part of the celebrations.

Chief executive Caroline Ford said: "It has been a huge journey for us, starting with one bereavement support weekend held in 1998.

"We have moved on and developed so much, and are now looking at holding 11 such weekends next year.

"We've gone from having no staff to a dedicated team of seven, who are able to offer so much more in supporting families in terms of assessments, follow-up visits, signposting to other services and providing support in schools.

"It's changed out of all recognition in 20 years, but what still lives at the core of what we do is being there to try and help families who are struggling."
