Barking boy, 17, arrested at Channel Tunnel is charged with murder of Anthony Eastwood in Gillingham

A teenager has been charged with murder after police swooped on him after he left the country.

The 17-year-old was arrested at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Coquelles, France, in the early hours of Saturday following the killing in Gillingham.

The boy, who cannot be named due to his age, has now been charged with stabbing Anthony Eastwood to death last month.

The 35-year-old was attacked following an argument near The Monarch pub in Fox Street on the afternoon of Friday, December 20.

The teen, from Barking, Essex, was travelling with a woman in her 40s, who was also detained on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released from custody pending further inquiries. The pairs relationship has not been disclosed for legal reasons.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court today.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and still need to trace a large knife despite recovering one from the scene shortly after the attack.
