Rochester Bridge refurbishment scheduled

This week sees changes for both road and pedestrian traffic on the Rochester Bridges, as their refurbishment continues.

A temporary road layout has now been implemented on New Bridge.

This will involve closure of the footway and cycleway, with two lanes of road traffic on the downstream side of the New Bridge.

Refurbishment works will be carried out on Rochester Bridge over 18 months

Vehicles will still be able to turn right onto Rochester Esplanade, while pedestrians will be diverted to the Old Bridge. This system will continue until the summer.

The riverside footway on Rochester Esplanade will also be closed from next Tuesday, May 7, until spring 2020.

Pedestrians will be directed to use the footway on the far side of the road, alongside The Crown pub.

These changes will reduce the number of parking spaces by the Esplanade but enable work to begin on an improved drainage system.
