Police at scene of serious incident in The Vineries, Gillingham

Police have descended on a flat after a serious incident.

Details are unclear at the moment but about 10 police cars and a fire investigation unit were called to the scene in The Vineries, Gillingham, at about 9am.

Police have been approached for comment.

The fire service confirmed they were called to a house blaze at 10.25am and remain at the scene.

The house has been covered up and forensics are also in attendance.

A man who uses a wheelchair is believed to live there but neighbours say he kept himself to himself and was only ever seen smoking outside.

A source said: "Police arrived at about 9am. There were about ten police cars there, fire and forensics. The house is cordoned off and a police officer is on guard outside."
