Emergency service descended on a town bridge after concerns were raised about a person.
Police, fire service, ambulance crews and the coastguard attended Rochester Bridge.
The route was closed off Strood-bound, with traffic diverted through Rochester town centre.
A notice to residents from My Community Voice states: “Because of a police emergency incident tonight the Rochester Bridge has been closed and is unlikely to reopen quickly.
“Please take an alternative route or plan other travel arrangements tonight.”
A police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at 7.28pm on Friday 14 February to concerns for the welfare of a person near Corporation Street, Rochester.
“Officers attended the scene where a man was later handed into the care of health professionals.”
