Coronavirus Kent: Eggfree Cake Box donates cakes to Medway Maritime Hospital

The owner of a chain of cake shops has shown his gratitude to health workers by donating cakes to hospitals.

Shelinder Bhurji – who runs Eggfree Cake Box which has branches in Gravesend, Strood and Maidstone – donated 2,500 slices of cake to Medway Maritime yesterday.

He visited the hospital in Gillingham to hand over the slices and a large celebration cake saying, "Our heroes, thank you" to Gary Lupton, executive director of estates and facilities.

He plans to visit the hospital again on Friday and also Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford.

He said: "It's just to show our appreciation for the NHS. With what's going on and everything, I think they appreciate it.

"Some of the staff might have celebrations at home or it might be their birthday but they might not be able to celebrate."

Mr Bhurji has also been helping out at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend, supplying cakes for care packages being distributed to the elderly.
