World Book Day: Warren Wood Primary School, Hilltop Primary School and Gad's Hill School dress to impress

Thousands of youngsters ditched their uniform to recreate their favourite book characters.

Youngsters at Warren Wood Primary School in Rochester had a whole week of activities to encourage them to get reading as part of World Book Day, which was held yesterday.

Pupils at the school designed posters to celebrate World Book Day, took part in a reading challenge and created their own stories.

The staff at the school in Arethusa Road dressed up as Harry Potter characters.

Meanwhile, children and staff at Gad's Hill School in Higham strutted their stuff on a catwalk to show off their costumes.

Children thought out of the box with their attire, with one pupil dressing up as an encyclopedia and another as library.

Year 6 form tutor, Joanne Titler, said: “Reading really helps bring imaginations to life.

“I am very impressed by the wide range of colourful creations we have on display today, and most importantly the children have all read, or are going to read, the book that their character is from.

“As always, a huge thank you to our parents, who are instrumental in the creation of fantastic costumes year-on-year.”

Children at Hilltop Primary School in Wainscott dressed up as their favourite characters including Willy Wonka and Moana.
